## Gonder: The Camelot of Africa
Gonder (or Gondar) is a city in northwestern Ethiopia, in the Amhara region. It was the third capital of Ethiopia, founded by Emperor Fasilides in 1636. It is famous for its collection of castles, palaces, and churches from the 17th and 18th centuries, which are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gonder is also a gateway to the Simien Mountains National Park, a stunning natural reserve with endemic wildlife and spectacular scenery.
